Fanny's Journey

Inspired by Fanny Ben-Ami's autobiography, Fanny's Journey tells the story of a young girl that is separated from her parents in Nazi-occupied France when she leads a group of eight children to safety in Switzerland.

When Fanny's father is arrested, her mother sends her and her siblings to a boarding school in France's neutral zone where Jewish children seek refuge. Soon after they arrive, they learn that a German raid is imminent and must quickly leave for a new school in Italy. Under the direction of Madame Forman, Fanny and her sisters begin to settle into their new life, but when political circumstances change, Madame Forman recognizes that the children are no longer safe and secures new travel documents for the girls and other children to cross into Switzerland. En route, Fanny takes charge and leads the group as they navigate physical and political obstacles.

With a focus on the resilience of the young protagonists, Doillon beautifully directs an up-and-upcoming cast in a story with renewed relevance in today's world.
