Let's join together this Shabbat Earth Day April 22nd for a Shomreh Adamah Program. Pack a picnic, and let's gather for brisk nature walk and indigenous storytime: Walking with Grandfather w/Chief Phil Lane Jr. at Kwomais Point Park in South Surrey, Ocean Park(see link for map and address). We'll meet at 11:30am and our programming begins at noon. Sure to be fun for all ages. Pet's are invited to attend! Please bring friends and remember to RSVP:) At 1pm our picnic and storytime will be followed by a local Petroglyph Exploration on Crescent Beach with educator, scholar and feild guide Robert Hallum, who will be accompanied by Son Welsh, the consulting archaeologist working for the Semiahmoo First Nations. Bio:Rob Hallam grew up, works, and lives in White Rock. He completed an Associate of Arts Degree in Anthropology at Kwantlen Polytechnic University before expanding that to a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Archaeology at Simon Fraser University. During 2014, he composed a sonnet titled An Exogenous Sonnet for an Indigenous Petroglyph, which won second place in a local poetry contest. He also received honourable mention in Friends of the White Rock Library’s 2021 writing competition for an entry titled Kw'íkw'exwelhp: the name feels right. Encouraged by his family, he continues to try his hand at producing other anthropologically based poems and essays. Homolsom: a typo’d prosoponym was inspired by his cousin’s secondhand book (E. Pauline Johnson's Legends of Vancouver).
